I previously wrote about why you should have a direct sales blog as well as what to write about when you have a direct sales blog. The next logical question to ask is, HOW do you start your own direct sales blog?
Personally, I knew absolutely nothing about blogging before I made the decision to invest in myself and have my very own blog about my direct sales experience. I didn’t know where to start and I needed step-by-step training to follow.
I took Sassy Suite’s Blogging Bootcamp created by Brenda Ster of The Socialite Suite. Her easy approach to teaching the blog course boils down to 4 key parts.
Site Set Up, Design, Content, and Cross-Promotion. These 4 steps will result in your own successful direct sales blog!
Step 1: Site Set Up
Blogging Bootcamp begins with some very basic website set up tutorials. Domains, themes, and basic website set up are covered. You’ll come away from this taking control of how you want the foundation of your website to look along with the knowledge of what you would like your website to look like.
The Bootcamp team is made up of technical blogging ninjas. For real! Their expertise and knowledge of how to create websites are priceless. The team installs the theme of your choice and takes care of anyone-time technical tasks.
Which leads us to….
Step 2: Website Design
I know I’m not alone in this, it is very very easy to get hung up on the design element of things. What color to use, what they heck is a sidebar, and what is a widget?! All of these things are broken down into easy to understand steps and you come away with a clear understanding of how to enhance your website and make it look how you have always imagined it would look.
The beauty of the design phase is that it can always be changed! If you find down the road you didn’t like the look of how your page was laid out, it can always be changed. And with Bootcamp, you will have the knowledge of how to make those changes yourself.
Step 3: Content Strategy
Amongst the pretty photos, script type fonts, and glittery backgrounds, a direct sales blog is reliant on really great content. Throughout this part of Blogging Bootcamp, you will easily come away with 50+ ideas on what to write. I promise! Your mind will be buzzing with blog post ideas!
You will also learn the how-to steps of posting articles to your direct sales blog. Keywords, SEO, graphics and all the fun things that come with creating a blog post are broken down. Once you have mastered this step and you have 8-10 blog posts written, the last piece of the puzzle falls into place!
Step 4: Cross-Promotion
Once you have your website set up, all pretty and fancy, you are ready to start getting it out there in front of real, live, people!!! Scary right?! You’ll learn the best (from the best) information about how to cross promote effectively without spinning your wheels as well as the best way to grow your direct sales blog following.
I knew I needed a seasoned professional to lay it out straight for me. I needed step by step instructions on how to do this whole thing called blogging! Sassy Suite’s Blogging Bootcamp uses a simple step by step approach along with the personalized coaching made it very easy for me to create my website and blog one day at a time!
You not only create your website, you are taught how to manage your website. This is VERY important.
So many people out there can build you a website. But, a direct sales blog is more than just a pretty site. You need to know how to maintain and take control of your website. After Blogging Bootcamp you will walk away with a gorgeous blog, a clear idea on what to blog about, and the tools and resources you need to manage your own website.
