LuLaRoe. Pampered Chef. Origami Owl. Avon. These companies and hundreds more are what are known as direct sales companies. You are at the point where you are thinking about joining a direct sales company and are not quite sure how to know which one is right for you. Don’t worry! I’ve got you covered with these 5 questions to consider before starting your direct sales journey.
Which company is right for me?
There are literally 1,400 direct sales companies in the United States at any given time according to the Direct Selling Association. That means if you are into clothes, makeup, jewelry, essential oils, cooking, whatever it may be, you have a lot of companies to choose from.
You may have already purchased and currently use direct sales products each and every day. Is there one that speaks to you more than others? Can you visualize yourself talking about this product with friends, family, strangers? Do some research on a few of the direct sales companies you are interested in and take into consideration this next question.
What am I looking for?
Simply stated, your direct sales journey is shaped by the goals you have for yourself. Are you looking for additional income? Would you like to connect with others who share the same love for a specific product or service? Maybe you just need something for yourself, a project of sorts to challenge your mind and expand your future opportunities. Whatever the case may be, write down a few goals you would love to achieve for yourself and take them into consideration when you are researching the different direct sales companies.
How do I want to share my direct sales product and company?
This question is one that will definitely evolve over time. You may be interested in creating fabulous displays and unique booths at a vendor event. Or, you might prefer to work your direct sales business solely online using Facebook parties and other social media platforms. Do some research, talk with others in the direct sales industry, and know that it is ok to try something out and pivot to another channel in which to share your direct sales journey.
Where do I sign up?
All direct sales companies have corporate websites where you can sign up and join. There are others that request you designate a mentor as you go through the sign-up process. If you don’t, you may be assigned to someone in your local area. This varies from company to company.
Don’t worry if you do not know your mentor, or do not have any contact with them at all. This is your direct sales journey and you are free to work how you want to and meet your own goals that you make for yourself. Seek out others in the direct sales world for help or answers to questions.
What should I do first?
After signing up with a direct sales company, you’ll wait for your start-up kit or inventory to arrive. You may find yourself suffering from information overload and you might question just what to focus on first! I have you covered, click to see my next piece to this series.
