Rich Pins on Pinterest.
So pinning will make me rich? Right?
Not quite! But for all of my direct sales blogging friends, I’m telling you now. You need rich pins on Pinterest!
Simply put, rich pins on Pinterest have your website and icon displayed underneath the pin image. To see what these look like, take a peek at my Pinterest rich pins. Each pin is listed in bold as an “Article by Kristy Empol | Direct Sales Blogger”.
After you activate rich pins, you may find your follower count grow and the number of re-pins and pins you receive will increase as well!
I think it is one of the best (and easiest) ways to automatically grow your Pinterest following and gain traction for your own original pins.
So let’s take a look at the 3 steps to follow to set up rich pins on Pinterest for your direct sales blog. It seriously only takes a few minutes to set up.
Secret tip: If you want to learn exactly how to use Pinterest for your direct sales business scroll down to find the best Pinterest training available.
Step 1: Yoast Plugin
One of the easiest ways to set up rich pins on Pinterest is by using the Yoast Plugin in WordPress. Pinterest needs something called “metadata”. Meta tags are needed on your site and guess what…
The Yoast Plugin does all of that hard work for you!
After you have installed and activated Yoast in WordPress, you will want to navigate to Social tab of Yoast. Then click on the “Facebook” tab.
Make sure the “Add Open Graph meta data” is “Enabled”.
Step 2: Validate & Apply
With the nitty-gritty of meta tags, metadata and all that other WordPress techie stuff done, now you are ready to validate your website and apply.
To validate your website, click on Pinterest’s Rich Pin Validator.
Now enter a link to any blog post on your website. This cannot be your main homepage, just any article on your site.
Click “Validate” and you’ll receive a message that says, “Your Pin’s Been Validated!”
Click “Apply Now” and a pop-up screen will appear and you will click “Apply Now” again.
That’s it!
Sometimes the application approval process is instant and sometimes it takes a few days.
Once you are approved, your pins will now show as “Rich Pins”. You did it!
Step 3: Add Descriptions
Another way to ensure your pins are found and repinned depends on your Pinterest descriptions.
Keyword rich descriptions and strategic hashtags help your pins gain traction. One of the easiest ways to ensure your pin descriptions are shared is by using a social sharing plugin like Social Warfare.
When you install and activate Social Warfare, you will find a Social Warfare section at the bottom of each blog post entry.
Here is where you can customize your Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest descriptions. And there is also spot for your branded social media and Pinterest share image.
It makes it so easy to update your pin images if you ever decide to rebrand or want to freshen up your blog post pins.

This was very helpful!
I do have a quick question – I got my rich pins set up, but under “Author” there is no information. Should that show my name and photo? How to a go about making that happen?
I’m so happy you found it helpful, Amanda! To have your name and photo pop up on your pins, you will need to confirm your website with Pinterest. Using Yoast, navigate to the Social tab then the Pinterest tab. Click on the link to Claim Your Website https://help.pinterest.com/en/articles/claim-your-website#meta_tag and follow the prompts to finish the process.
