How to Create an Automated Email Sequence in Mailchimp

Create an Automated Email Sequence in Mailchimp

Hey blogger!

You created a fancy WordPress blog, you set up your own subscriber pop up, now you want to know how to to keep your subscribers engaged.

Right?

Between figuring out your opt-in freebie, setting up the pop up, and wondering what to email your subscribers, you must be thinking there is an easy way to consistently interact with your followers.

Don’t stress!

Create an automated email sequence in Mailchimp for your subscribers to set your email list growth on auto-pilot!

But just HOW easy is it to set up?

Check out the step by step guide below on setting up an automated email sequence in Mailchimp.

Step 1: Create Automated Email Campaign

Mailchimp is pretty user friendly for new bloggers. The first thing you want to do is navigate to the Campaigns section of your Mailchimp dashboard.

Click Create Campaign.

Then click Email.

Finally, click Automated.

You’ll be brought to this screen:

To keep things simple, choose “Welcome New Subscribers” to begin your automated email sequence.

Step 2: Edit Trigger for Email #1

Once a reader has subscribed to your blog, they most likely will want instant access to the opt-in freebie you promised them. For that reason, you will want to edit the trigger for your first email to “Immediately”.

All that means is the second someone completes your opt-in form and signs up to be a subscriber, the very first email in the sequence will immediately be sent to them.

Easy, right?

Step 3: Designer Email #1

Now comes the fun part.

Use your creative blogger brain to create a fun and welcoming first email!

I know that blank space can be quite daunting so Mailchimp has templates to help you out.

Once you have chosen a template to use, go through the email and make sure you are giving your subscribers what they are expecting from your first email.

Remember to tell them how to access the opt-in freebie you promised at sign up.

Tell them a little bit about yourself and your background in your business.

Share one of your most helpful blog posts with them to keep them engaged (this helps to increase your blog traffic)!

Give them all the ways to contact you and remind them when to expect to see the next email from you.

Test the email out before moving onto the next step. You want to make sure all the links work and there are no weird line breaks or gaps!

Step 4: Add More Emails

Once you get your first email designed and looking pretty you’ll feel motivated to continue adding emails to your automated sequence.

As you click “Add Email” make sure to edit the trigger again.

Think about when you want to have the 2nd email go out.

If you are crafting a mini-email course of sorts, consider having the emails go out 1 day apart and then adding emails to the end of the sequence to properly follow up and give your readers their next steps.

Having an automated sequence ensure you have subscribers reading your content each and every week. As your email list grows, you will find your blog traffic increase because of the consistent contact you have with your followers.

Step 5: Test It Out

I highly recommend sending the test emails to yourself before you finalize the automated sequence. This ensures all the links you have work and the wording of each email makes sense when you think of the overall message you are trying to convey.

Once everything looks good, confirm your sequence and make it live!

YAY!

Now when you get an email from Mailchimp stating someone has joined your list, you’ll feel confident knowing they will receive their welcome email to start and enjoy the rest of the emails to come.

Set It But Don’t Forget It

Another reason why I love recommending automated email sequences in Mailchimp is that it is SO easy to add an email onto the sequence as your blog grows.

As you continue to blog, create more content, more products, more services, all you have to do is add a new email to the sequence to keep your readers engaged and up to date on what you are doing. Simple!

So where are you stuck?

What is holding you back from creating your own automated email sequence?
